Jammu: BJP Mahila Morcha J&K ed by its President, Advocate Neha Mahajan, submitted a memorandum to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, seeking the introduction of a new Vande Bharat Express train on the Jammu–Chandigarh–Haridwar route.
The memorandum was submitted in the presence of Sat Sharma (CA), Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and President, BJP Jammu & Kashmir, whose guidance and commitment towards strengthening public infrastructure and connectivity in the region continue to inspire such initiatives. BJP Mahila Morcha General Secretary Urvashi Gupta was also present on the occasion.
The memorandum strongly highlights the acute shortage of train connectivity between Jammu and Haridwar. At present, only the Hemkunt Express (14609/14610) operates on this route, with very limited AC capacity, making it extremely difficult for passengers to secure confirmed tickets. Even Tatkal bookings are exhausted within minutes, leaving a large number of travelers without viable options.
Advocate Neha Mahajan emphasized the immense religious significance of Haridwar for both Hindu and Sikh communities. A large number of devotees from Jammu & Kashmir travel for the Shri Hemkund Sahib Yatra, and the lack of adequate train services causes considerable inconvenience. Additionally, students studying in Chandigarh and people traveling for educational, medical, and business purposes are facing serious connectivity challenges.
The memorandum also underlined that there is currently no daily direct train connectivity between Jammu and Chandigarh, a major educational and commercial hub, further adding to public inconvenience.
It was strongly proposed that the introduction of a Vande Bharat Express on the Jammu–Chandigarh–Haridwar route would significantly enhance passenger convenience, promote religious tourism, improve regional connectivity, and contribute to economic growth. It would also benefit pilgrims visiting Shri Mata Vaishno Devi, Katra.
Advocate Neha Mahajan urged the Railway Minister to consider this genuine and pressing public demand at the earliest and expressed confidence that the Government will take a positive decision in the larger public interest.
