JAMMU: Public Works (R&B) Department Casual Labour Union held protest for regularization of Daily Wagers/ Casual Labourers/Need-Based Workers in PW(R&B) Department. Protesters highlighted the challenges faced by Daily Wagers, Casual Labourers, and NeedBased Workers in the Public Works (R&B) Department.
To address these concerns, they said protest was held in front of the Chief Engineer’s Office, Lok Nirman Bhawan, Rail Head Complex, Jammu. The protest underscores our demand for regularization of services. “For over two decades, we have been serving as Daily Wagers, Casual Labourers, and Need-Based Workers in roles such as Computer Operators, Draftsmen, Drivers, Cooks, Plumbers, Electricians, and more. Our contributions include operating official portals like JK Tenders, BEAM, Paysys, and Parvish. Despite our dedication and efficiency, we remain unregularized,” they said.
They added, “Many of us have crossed 40 years of age, with some nearing retirement or already retired as Daily Wagers. Our families, including elderly parents, depend on our income, yet we lack social security like EPF or ESI. Being outside the Below Poverty Line (BPL)category, we are ineligible for government welfare schemes.
Notably, 2,272 Need-Based Casual Labourers are registered in Jammu Division alone.” “Families of workers who have passed away during service are left without income. We requestthat one eligible family member be engaged in the same role to ensure their livelihood,” They said and appealed for the regularization of Daily Wagers, Casual Labourers, and NeedBased Workers to secure our future and allow them to live with dignity.
