Jammu, April 24: Refugees from Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) on Friday staged a protest at the Maharaja Hari Singh Park, demanding urgent government action to resolve their long-standing grievances.
Addressing the gathering, the President of the Mahila Wing of PoJK refugees stated that several refugee families remain landless and are forced to live in rented houses without adequate housing or educational opportunities for their children.
Another protester, speaking at the demonstration, alleged that a significant number of files related to compensation and rehabilitation have gone missing, while some are still lying pending in the office of the Deputy Commissioner. He urged the authorities to trace the missing documents and expedite the processing of all pending claims.
The protesters demanded that land be allotted to landless refugee families in the same manner as it was provided to residents living in designated camps. They also claimed that compensation cases worth around Rs 24 lakh in several instances remain unresolved despite repeated follow-ups.
The demonstrators emphasized that they are citizens of the country and have been raising their demands for more than 70 years. They appealed to both the state and central governments to take strict action, clear pending files, and ensure justice, rehabilitation, and basic facilities for PoJK refugee families.
