AUG 21: Amidst mayhem and uproar, the Rajya Sabha on Thursday referred the three key bills, Constitution (One Hundred & Thirtieth Amendment) Bill, 2025, Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill, 2025, and the Jammu & Kashmir Reorganization (Amendment) Bill, 2025, to a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC).
It is learnt that the Joint Committee underpins – 21 Lok Sabha members and 10 Rajya Sabha members – to be nominated by the Speaker and Deputy Chairman respectively.
Notably, the Joint Committee has been asked to submit a report in the first week of the Winter Session of Parliament.
While the opposition and Centre exchanged barbs, Union Home Minister Amit Shah moved that the three bills be sent to a Joint Parliamentary Committee in Rajya Sabha.
The Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill, 2025, and Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill, 2025 bat for the immediate removal of Union Minister, including Prime Minister, and State Minister who are facing allegations of corruption or any serious offence and have been placed under detention of 30 days. Speaking particularly of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill 2025, section 54 of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019 is mandatory for the legal framework to eliminate Chief Minister or Minister from its position on account of serious allegation.
INDIA Bloc leaders have severely reprimanded the three key bills and termed them as “Draconian” and “Undemocratic”.
