AUG 6: In view of the cloudburst triggering heavy flash floods in Harsil of Uttarkashi in Uttarakhand leaving five persons dead and several missing, 150 Army personnel led by Colonel Harshvardhan, Commanding Officer of 14 RAJRI have been inducted for rescue and relief operations.
Cutting-edge technology has been mobilized with real-time monitoring system including high-tech drones, Army tracker dogs, and earthmoving equipment for evacuation since Tuesday.
Notably, the efforts of Indian Army, Uttarakhand Police, SDRF, NDRF and other agencies are in full swing to rescue the people in flash floods.
Regardless of relentless downpour resulting difficult terrain hindering the operations, the officials have rescued 130 people as of now.
Army and Air Force Helicopters are at the forefront in providing necessary supplies and medicines. Besides, the residents have been moved to higher reaches given the rising water levels owing to relentless rainfall.
Pertinent to mention, cloudburst triggered flash floods in Uttarkashi district on Tuesday washing away residential colonies and roads with several people feared missing.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has conducted an aerial inspection of the areas affected by devastating flash floods in Uttarkashi. Dhami also took stock of relief and rescue operations with senior administrative officials and Army Personnel.
Following this, CM Dhami has instructed to generate momentum in relief efforts.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert in Uttarkashi with a forecast of moderate to incessant rain showers in conjunction with light thunderstorms.
Meanwhile, Red Alert issued in Nainital, Dehradun, Almora, Pauri Garhwal, Nainital, Tehri Garhwal, Champawat, and Bageshwar.
