JULY 28: Today, Ajaz Ahmed Jan, Hon’ble MLA from Poonch, and Mian Mehar Ali, Hon’ble MLA from Kangan, paid a condolence visit to the residence of Mohd Parwais, who was tragically killed by individuals reportedly in civilian dress and without police uniforms. This deeply unfortunate incident has once again raised concerns about the safety and security of the Muslim community in the region.
During the visit, MLA Ajaz Ahmed Jan conveyed heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family and informed them that Dr. Farooq Abdullah also expressed deep sorrow over the incident. Shri Mian Mehar Ali, while speaking to the family and the gathered locals, assured them that the entire community stands with the victim’s family in this difficult time.
Speaking to the media and locals, Ajaz Ahmed Jan strongly condemned the incident, calling it a brutal misuse of power and a violation of basic human rights. He stated that it is unacceptable for any individual—especially law enforcement personnel—to act outside the boundaries of law and accountability. He demanded immediate suspension and arrest of those involved, and reiterated his commitment to raise the matter in the Assembly as well as with higher authorities. He also added that playing politics over an innocent’s death is not acceptable under any circumstances, and urged all parties to focus on justice rather than blame games.
The MLAs emphasized that such incidents are unacceptable and have led to growing insecurity among civilians, especially when families relocate temporarily due to weather conditions and the needs of their livestock. It has been observed that such vulnerable communities are often harassed or targeted near police posts, which raises serious concerns.
Prominent leaders and party members who accompanied the MLAs included Abid Magray (District President, Ramban), Tajinder Pal Singh (Provincial President, YNC), Nitish Sharma, Zameer Qureshi, Adhyan Sharma, Shazad Diwan, Sr. Sunil Sharma, Sr. MK Rana, Jaseen Malik, Mukhtar Rathoor, and others. Their presence reflected a united stand against injustice and a shared commitment to stand by the bereaved family in their time of grief.
MLAs jointly met with the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir to brief him about the situation. The LG assured that strict action will be taken against all those involved, and that a thorough investigation will be carried out to bring justice to the family.
The leaders appealed for peace and unity in the region and called upon authorities to ensure the safety of all citizens, regardless of religion or background.
