Srinagar:Security forces arrested five suspected terrorist associates in Kulgam and busted an old terrorist hideout in Kupwara on Wednesday, recovering pistols, grenades, an AK-47 rifle and a large quantity of ammunition in two separate operations.
In Kulgam, police and security forces arrested five suspected terrorist associates at KhewanChadder on the basis of credible information, a police spokesperson said.
The arrested were identified as Tajamul Hussain Mir of Gufbal, Rehmat Ali Naikoo, Tehrim Ahmed Bhat and Manzoor Ahmed Bhat, all residents of Khrewan, and Kifiyat Ahmed Dar of Maltalhama.
Security forces recovered two pistols, three magazines, 40 rounds of 9mm ammunition and three grenades from their possession.
In a separate operation in Kupwara, a joint team of police, Army and CRPF personnel busted an old terrorist hideout in the Nagda Nar forest area of Handwara following specific intelligence inputs.
The search operation led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, three grenades, 857 AK rounds, 192 PIKA rounds, eight AK magazines, a silencer and 83 pistol rounds, besides other incriminating material.
Cases have been registered at Kulgam and Handwara police stations under relevant sections of law, and investigations into both operations are underway.
