Srinagar, August 14:Thirty-eight personnel of the Jammu and Kashmir Police have been selected for the Medal for Gallantry (GM) under the Independence Day 2026 honours, according to the official list of awardees.
The recipients belong to different ranks of the police force, including Deputy Inspector General, Senior Superintendent of Police, Superintendent of Police, Inspector, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Assistant Sub-Inspector, Head Constable, SgCT and Constable.
Among the awardees, Head Constable Rayeesh Ahmad Reshi has received the Gallantry Medal for the first time. Deputy Superintendent of Police Sarfaraz Bashir has been awarded the medal for the second time.
Meanwhile, SgCT Ishtiaq Ahmed Khan and Assistant Sub-Inspector Mohinder Singh have been given the first bar to the Gallantry Medal.
The J&K Police personnel named in the list include Shiv Kumar, IPS; Shobhit D. Saksena, IPS; Nasir Ahmad; Kalu Din; Adit Kumar Nad; Divya D, IPS; Mohd Usman; Shabir Ahmad Malik; Manzoor Ahmad Ganie; Khurshid Ahmed Wani; Mushtaq Ahmad Shah; Ab. Rashid Mir; Mushtaq Ahmad; Mohamad Shafi Banday; Abdul Rashid; Zahoor Ahmad; Pande Rajiv Omprakash, IPS; Dheeraj Kumar; Shakir Hassan; Vikram Nag; Mushtaq Ahmad Khan and Tariq Ahmad, among others.
As per the official document, 272 Gallantry Medals have been listed under the Police Service category for personnel from different states and Central Armed Police Forces. The J&K Police awardees figure between serial numbers 151 and 188.
The list also names 29 Fire Service personnel from Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh for Gallantry Medals. With these additions, the document records a total of 301 gallantry medal recipients.
The honours are meant to recognise personnel who have demonstrated exceptional courage and bravery while performing their duties and are being announced as part of the Independence Day 2026 celebrations.
