JAMMU: Three residents of Haryana were killed and two others injured after their car collided with a truck on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in Jammu’s Nagrota area during the early hours of Sunday.
The accident took place at around 2:15 am near Jagti-Karli in Nagrota, officials said.
According to officials, the car carrying five occupants met with a severe collision with a truck, leaving the vehicle extensively damaged. The impact was so intense that two occupants died on the spot, while another later succumbed to injuries during treatment at Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital Jammu.
The deceased were identified as Sikander Saifi, Shakti and Mohit Verma, all residents of Haryana.
Two other occupants, identified as Deepak Verma and Kuldeep Sharma, sustained injuries in the accident and were admitted to GMC Jammu for treatment. Officials said both injured persons are receiving medical care.
The tragic accident triggered condolences from the Union Territory’s top leadership.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed grief over the loss of lives and extended condolences to the bereaved families.
In his message, the Lieutenant Governor said he was deeply saddened by the tragic road accident near Jagti, Nagrota, and prayed for peace to the departed souls. He also wished speedy recovery to those injured and directed the district administration to provide all necessary assistance to the affected families.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also condoled the deaths and conveyed sympathies to the families of the deceased.
According to a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office, Abdullah expressed deep sorrow over the accident and prayed for eternal peace to the departed souls. He also wished early recovery for the injured and directed concerned authorities to ensure the best possible medical treatment to them.
Police have taken note of the accident and further proceedings are underway.
