‘One Nation One Election’ Could Transform India’s Political and Economic Stability: Dr Jitendra Singh

Jammu, 09 October: Today, A Student Leader’s Conference was organised by the Students for One Nation One Election at Brigadier Rajinder Singh Auditorium, University of Jammu. Dr Jatinder Singh Hon’ble MOS, PMO was the chief guest, Sh Surinder Nagar, Hon’ble MP, Rajya Sabha was the key speaker, Justice ML Manhas, former Justice, High Court of Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh was guest of honour, Prof Virender Koundal, Director DSRS and Dr Raju Rawat, renowned academician were special guest.
Over 500 student leaders from colleges and Universities across the Jammu region participated in the conference.
The conference served as a dynamic platform for young leaders to deliberate on the implications, opportunities, and challenges of implementing a unified electoral system in India.
The idea of “One Nation, One Election” proposes synchronizing elections to the Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies to enhance governance efficiency and reduce the cost and frequency of electoral processes.
India’s democracy is dynamic and ever-evolving. The idea of ‘One Nation, One Election’ is not political — it is practical. It will save resources, strengthen accountability, and ensure that the focus of every government remains on performance rather than perpetual electioneering, Dr. Singh said while addressing the gathering.
“This reform carries forward Prime Minister Modi’s vision of transparency, efficiency, and good governance, he added.
Sh. Surinder Nagar, Rajya Sabha MP, lauded the government’s consultative and inclusive approach. The essence of democracy lies in consensus. By forming an expert committee under former President Ram Nath Kovind and involving political parties, the Election Commission, and civil society, the government has ensured transparency and collective participation in this historic reform, he said.
Former Justice ML Manhas highlighted the scope of One Nation, One Election and how it could benefit Indian society by creating stability and opening up new opportunities for the country’s youth. The renewed momentum behind “One Nation, One Election” underscores a broader national aspiration — to make India’s democratic machinery more efficient, accountable, and future-ready. While challenges remain in achieving constitutional alignment and political consensus, the discourse marks a defining moment in India’s journey toward electoral reform.
Dr. Raju Rawat, Assistant Professor,Delhi University & National Team member, Student for One Nation One Election, motivated youth to take pledge to always work in the welfare of Nation & society building.
The formal vote of thanks was given by Arun Prabhat former President, Jammu University Student Union in which he thanked all the participants, dignateries academician and media in general who were present in the event, all the student leaders are the brand ambassadors of One Nation One Election which will be strong factor to make India a developed nation by 2047.
