Jammu, May21:Amid intense heatwave conditions across the Jammu region, the Jammu and Kashmir Labour Department issued an advisory directing employers to take immediate steps for the safety and welfare of workers exposed to extreme temperatures.
According to the Meteorological Department, Samba recorded the highest temperature in the Union Territory at 45.7 degrees Celsius, while Jammu city witnessed 43.1 degrees Celsius on Wednesday.
The advisory covers workers employed in factories, construction sites, brick kilns, transport services, agriculture and other outdoor sectors vulnerable to heat exposure.
Employers have been asked to avoid heavy work during peak afternoon hours and ensure proper arrangements for drinking water, shaded rest areas, ventilation, ORS and first-aid facilities at workplaces.
The department also stressed special care for vulnerable groups, including construction workers, migrant labourers, brick-kiln workers and daily wagers. Officials have been directed to conduct regular inspections to ensure strict implementation of the safety guidelines.
