Mayor JMC stresses upon all stake holders to participate in mission

JAMMU SEPT 19: A day-long regional workshop regarding the Swachh Survekshan-2020 was organized by the Directorate of Urban Local Bodies under Swachh Bharat Mission in association with the Jammu Municipal Corporation at Convention Centre here today.
The workshop was inaugurated by Mayor JMC Chander Mohan Gupta while Deputy Mayor Purnima Sharma, Director Urban Local Bodies Jammu Veerji Hangloo, Commissioner JMC Pankaj Magotra, Deputy Director ULB Virender Kumar Manyal, Anil Prakash National PMU, SBM (MoHUA, GOI), Director CPHEEO (MoHUA, GOI) Rohit Kakkar, Astha Goel from Quality Council of India besides Executive Officers of Municipal Councils/ Committees, officers of Urban Local Bodies Jammu, Sanitation officers/ Supervisors and Ward Officers of JMC were present on the occasion.
While speaking on the occasion, the Mayor congratulated the people of J&K for achieving Open Defecation Free (ODF) status. He said that India has pledged to become ODF and clean by 2nd October 2019 as a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary besides fulfilling the dream of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “It is possible only when all the citizens and stake holders participate actively in this Mission”, he added.
He said that the Survekshan is being launched to encourage cities to move towards improved living for the citizens through planning management and development.
During the workshop, it was informed that as a prelude to encourage cities to improve Urban Sanitation, MoHUA has recently concluded its fourth survey of Swachh Survekshan-2020 for ranking 4,203 cities. MoHUA has now proposed to conduct its fifth survey to rank all cities under Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban with the objective to encourage large scale citizens participation and ensure sustainability of initiatives taken towards garbage free and open defecation free cities.
It was informed during the workshop that collecting segregated waste, utilizing capacity of wet waste processing facilities, treat and reuse waste water, following 3R principle of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, engage technology driven monitoring, integration of informed waste pickers are the key focus areas of Swachh Survekshan-2020.
The focus of the day long workshop was on overall methodology, SWM collection and transportation, SWM processing and disposal, sustainable sanitation, IEC and capacity building, innovation and best practices.
