Mega mass awareness program on plastic waste management under Swacchta Hi Sewa 2019 kick starts at Kargil

KARGIL SEPTEMBER 15:- Massive mass awareness programs on plastic waste management under Swacchta Hi Sewa 2019 are going on in full swing in Kargil district. As a part of the series of awareness programmes Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Baseer ul Haq Choudhary today kick started a mass awareness programme regarding segregation of waste with particular focus on plastic waste.
A team led by the Deputy Commissioner and comprised of district officers, volunteers of Anjuman e Jamiatul Ulema Asna Ashriya (Islamia School Kargil), Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust (IKMT) Kargil, hoteliers, members of Merchant Association and other stakeholders collected waste from various locations of Kargil town and later a mega demonstration on waste segregation was held at Lal Chowk Kargil.
Experts in waste segregation segregated the dump of collected waste into various categories and turned the waste into resource.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC urged upon the public to imbibe the habit of waste segregation at their households to make possible its segregation in the form of resource.
The DC sought cooperation of the public in making this movement successful and urged them to work proactively for ensuring the cleanliness and sanitation of their home and surroundings so as to lead a healthy life.
Earlier the DC conducted a meeting with the concerned district officers and the various stakeholders including the volunteers of Anjuman e Jamiatul Ulema Asna Ashriya (Islamia School Kargil), Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust (IKMT) Kargil, hoteliers and members of Merchant Association.
Broad modalities of the project were discussed threadbare which included the location of segregation sheds, timings of door to door waste collection, role of religious organizations in spreading awareness among the public about the importance of sanitation of surroundings and segregation of waste at source.
The DC underlined that the success of the scheme depends largely on the active and timely participation of stakeholders and the community at large.
In line with the mass waste management movement similar mass awareness programmes are slated to be conducted at the block headquarters of the district from 15th September to 27th October, 2019.
