Amarnath yatra resumes from Baltal, continues on Pahalgam track

Srinagar, Jul 20 : The yatra to holy Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas was resumed from shortest Baltal track after remaining suspended on Friday due to slippery conditions following rain.

The pilgrimage continued normally from the traditional Pahalgam track.

Meanwhile, a fresh batch of 4094 pilgrims on Saturday left for the Amarnath Cave Shrine amid "Bam Bam Bhole" chants and rains from Yatri Niwas, Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu.

"We have resumed yatra from Baltal following improvement in the weather. On Saturday a batch of 5,300 pilgrims, including women, children and sadhus, left Baltal base camp for the holy cave," he said.

Pilgrimage was on Friday suspended from Baltal base camp as the track was slippery at several places due to rain.

Similarly, he said a fresh batch of 1140 pilgrims, including women, children and sadhus, left Nunwan Pahalgam base camp for Chandanwari, the last motorable halting station on traditional yatra track.

The pilgrims, who had night halt at different stations, including Chandanwari, left for next stations early this morning.

He said on the 19th day of the ongoing Amarnathji Yatra, 6,114 Yatris paid obeisance at the Holy Cave on Friday. "Till date 2,38,974 Yatris had the darshan of the Shivling at the Holy Cave," he said.
