Back to Village campaign getting massive public response

SRINAGAR: As the State Government's Back to Village campaign completed four days, it is getting a massive response from people particularly in areas affected by law and order situations or have not been attended to so far due to any administrative exigency.

People in Gram Sabhas convened by the visiting officers shared their feedback about Government schemes with them and sought redressal of their grievances. They also raised issues of urgent attention which could not be factored in the developmental paradigm so far due to any reason.

Be it Jurniyal in Gurez, militancy-hit Dadasar(Tral) or Hirpora(Shopian), senior officers are staying put in the areas, listening to public grievances and assessing the developmental deficit in these areas. The aim is to bridge the gap between the achievable and achieved goals in development, take governance to doorsteps of rural and inaccessible areas and generate credible and empirical feedback. This, it is expected, would help in streamlining the developmental schemes and welfare initiatives of the Government to maximize the impact and outreach. The programme is primarily aimed at energizing the panchayats and directing development efforts in rural areas through community participation.

Today Chief Secretary, B V R Subramanyam; Principal Secretary, Animal & Sheep Husbandry, Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon; Secretary, General Administration Department, Farooq Ahmad Lone and other senior officers visited many far-flung areas, interacted with Panchayat functionaries, listened to their demands and took an on the spot assessment of the needs of the people.

This unique initiative of the State Government would last till June 27.
