Power dues: JKPDCL, PDD owe CPSUs Rs 2295 Crore

JAMMU: Even as the state is suffering from one of the worst power crisis of recent crisis, the State Power Development Department (PDD) and Power Department Corporation Limited (PDCL) have outstanding dues of power utilities of whopping Rs 2295.39 to Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSU).

The Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSU) include National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC), Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd. (SJVNL), Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) and Tehri Hydro Development Corporation (THDC), Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL).

“Majority of dues are pending with PDD. Out of the total outstanding dues to CPSU, it owes Rs 1530.92 crores while PDCL owes Rs 764.47 crore,” an official source told The News Now.

PDCL owes Rs 764.47 crore to National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC). The total amount includes principal amount of Rs 658.32 crore and surcharge of Rs 106.15 crore.

NHPC, formerly National Hydroelectric Power Corp. Ltd, has a generation capacity of 5,702 megawatts (MW) and includes projects taken up in joint ventures. Of the 4,857MW generated by NHPC, around 2,000MW is generated from the Jammu and Kashmir. NHPC supplies 820MW to the state.

The JKPDD owes power utilities dues to CPSU include NTPC, PGCIL, NPCIL, SJVNL, BBMB and THDC. “The highest dues are pending with NTPC. The department owes Rs 606.62 crore to NTPC,” a source said.

“The department also owes Rs 423.7 to NPCIL including 386.69 cr principal amount and 37.01 cr as surcharge. PDD further owes 105.00 cr to Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL), Rs 182.16 cr to SJVNL including Rs 159.87 principal amount and Rs 22.29cr as surcharge, Rs 6.80cr to BBMB and Rs 206.64 to THDC.

Meanwhile, NTPC had warned PDD earlier this, which owes it Rs 1,600 crore, of restricting supply from its power stations in India over the defaults in payments. The PDD assured that national company that it will pay, in parts, enough to NTPC in the coming days for it to not cut power supply. However, PDD still owes 606.62 crore. The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) supplies more than 900 megawatt of power to Jammu and Kashmir.
