In this week’s edition of Authors Now, we are elated to bring for you the inspiriting journey of Nupur Sandhu, a published author and Serenity Surrender Therapist, whose raison d’être is to spread happiness and motivation to people through her many creative endeavours. In a candid chat with Chirdeep Malhotra, she discusses about her latest book “NUMI: The Guarded Loop”; her awe-inspiring personal and writing journey; and also gives her luminary insights on diverse themes. She also articulates her message for those wanting to author books and also tells about the motivational quote that inspires her and gets her going. Here, we present excerpts and literary glimpses from the inspiring conversation with this eminent personality.

Nupur Sandhu is a published author of four books. A Serenity Surrender therapist, a psychologist, an author, a short film director and producer, she dons many hats. She is constantly winning hearts of people by her many heartfelt endeavours, and her latest book is getting rave reviews from readers and critics alike, and is constantly rising on the bestseller charts.
Talking about her novel, Nupur Sandhu says, “NUMI: The Guarded Loop is a realistic fiction based on the story of a middle-aged woman who understood the ups and downs in her present relationships by addressing the past beliefs hooked into her subconscious mind”.
When she is asked about the meaning of Realistic fiction, she says, “The distinction between fiction and non- fiction is quite recent, and far from universal to all the cultures. The Classical World did not make distinction at all, in The Hellenistic Library of Alexandria, Egypt; there were never different sections for fiction or non-fiction. If you see the prose fiction of Romans/ Roman age, it is often claimed to be true, even though it carried prominent elements of "Space Travel". The Library was burnt by the troops of Julius Caesar and only some material was saved of Alexandria's time, so few take it as real stories scribbled on those papers and few find it made up. So NUMI is a Realistic Fiction”. Such is the charisma of this author and she has such deep knowledge about her subject, that sitting with her, one gets to know various new and interesting facts.
Each chapter of the novel carries a crisp introduction and beautiful poems with pencil sketches. Hers is a novel whose appeal goes far beyond its target audience, for readers would love her sincere, straightforward, unpretentious prose.
When asked what the words NUMI mean, “The letters N, U, M, I have got a meaning in the Egypt's Nubian village situated next to De' NILE”. She explains, “My pull towards Egypt and The Great Pyramids started somewhere in late 2015. While growing slowly and getting deep understanding of the modality of Serenity Surrender, in the workshops De'Nial word was used quite often and I always heard it as De' Nile. Yes it is funny, but it's true. I thought it will be an "English Phrase" that “You are in De'Nile” and checked from fellow students and we had hearty laugh. We're taught that whatever you hear or experience is attracted by you only. And I started paying attention to these two words. In NUMI I have written about The Nile and going beneath the Earth. And let me tell you I experienced almost the same when I went quite deep down into the Queen's Pyramid, and I came to know the importance of Snakes in the Egyptian Culture that I had already written in NUMI and I came to know about the meaning of NUMI from a teacher in bright and bubbling NUBIAN Village, next to De' Nile. NUMI means Sleep, relax in warmth of caring and loving hands, where you feel you are completely safe and at home”. The author Nupur Sandhu has shared many experiences in the book. She has shared her experience about the jewel in the crown of Kumaon Hills, Kasar Devi Temple, which is from the 2nd century CE and how NUMI took her there- “Way back in May 2015, when I was still new to the modality of Serenity Surrender, and was repeating the basic workshop at " The Healing Cottage", during one of my healing practices the name NUMI was given to me, as if, I was told by the Creator to write a novel and name it NUMI. I had no clue what to write as didn't even know the meaning of NUMI. I searched and searched on Google and couldn't find the meaning then. After that, I experienced auto writing, and I wrote my first chapter “Half-Way Home”. During this journey of writing, many beautiful experiences happened. And one such was the visit to temple Kasar Devi built on "Hippie Hill". It is one of the 3 temples in the world that is said to lay under the "Van Allen Belt" or we may say under the radiation zone of high-energy particles, trapped by the Earth’s magnetic field. It is a place with high spiritual and creative energies. Swami Vivekananda Ji came to meditate in the temple premises in the 1890s. Bob Dylan, Beatles guitarist George Harrison, singer Cat Stevens and other spiritual seekers from the West also paid a visit here”.
She also explains the meaning of Entity in the book- “The ancient Maya, the ones who passed down the basis of the complex cosmic code we are using over thousands of years ago, believed in the cosmic fact that when two people come together in a relationship of any sort they create a separate and distinct energetic "Entity". And like any entity, it has different stages in its existence, a distinct purpose, as well as strengths, and challenges”.
When asked about her favourite genres, she quips, “I am actually not fixed to one kind of genre, if the topic interests me I will go for it”. Her favourite authors include Nicholas Sparks, Paul Hanna, Larry Miller, James Redfield and Devdutt Patnaik.
When asked about her other interests apart from writing, she says, “I am by my profession a Serenity Therapist and a Psychologist, so I enjoy my work. I am a film director and writer, avid Traveller, and love to meet new people from different professions. I am also very fond of music”.
Nupur Sandhu is presently focusing on the promotion of her latest book and is basking in the glory of the book’s stupendous success. She wants the book to reach more readers so that they get inspiration from the book and its motivational and spiritual theme. She is organising many literary seminars in student fests, and is interactive sessions with reader groups. For her, there aren’t any other literary projects in the pipeline as of now, but the creative person that she is, she is working on making a film.
She also has a piece of advice for new writers and poets who are aspiring to get their work published. She says, “I would suggest them to write not just for the sake of writing, that way your book will fall flat like a thud. Write if you enjoy writing; let your book flow like a river. It is very necessary that the team at publishing house and the author are in sync and work together. I had wonderful experience with Blue Rose Publishers”. A motivational quote that keeps her going is – “Be the Being and rejoice being that Being”.
When asked what else is in store for the readers in the book, she says “This is a novel that I have been writing since 2015-16. I grew with it and understood myself deeper through different relationships, life situations, my connections and my disconnections too. I experienced auto writing under supreme guidance, each chapter carries a part of Me and maybe, a part of You. I hope that the readers get motivation from this book”.
