Country's millionaires not contributing towards charity are like "rotten potatoes": J&K Guv

Jammu, Dec 19: Known for his firebrand remarks, Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik on Wednesday without naming Reliance owner Mukesh Ambani said that the millionaires who are not contributing into the charity are like "rotten potatoes".

"Recently one of the country's richest man as per reports have spent Rs 700 crore in lavish marriage ceremony and when he was asked by a reporter that whether he contributes into charity then he replied that no he do not," said Mr Malik while speaking at a function organised to mark 'Flag Day celebrations' organised by the Rajya Sainik Board here.

He said that for him, the rich class of the country, who do not contribute in charity are like "rotten potatoes".

"In Rs 700 crore spent on marriage ceremony, in Jammu and Kashmir, in this amount, 700 new schools could have constructed and 7000 war widows could have get their children educated and grow," said the Governor.

He also said that in Kashmir also many politicians and bureaucrats are millionaires but they do not have sensitivity towards the society.

"It is unfortunate that the elite class, rich people except few, do not contribute in charity and have no emotions and sensitivity towards the society," asserted Mr Malik.

He further said that the places and villages from where any jawan has made sacrifice towards nation, that place is in the real sense is a "pious" and a pilgrimage.
