Jammu, Dec 19: Asserting that the citizens should make more contribution towards Flag Day Fund, Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik on Wednesday said that nation must remember its martyrs and visit to their families should be made a regular activity.

"The country must remember its Martyrs' and visit to their families should be made a regular activity," said Mr Malik at Flag Day celebrations function organised by the Rajya Sainik Board here.

The Governor, who is also the President of Rajya Sainik Board, appreciated the efforts of the Board asserting that the citizens should make contributions towards Flag Day Fund, which supports welfare schemes of soldiers.

He however, also presented tributes to the services render by our soldiers in security of the country and upholding the integrity and unity of the nation.

To provide emotional support to martyrs families and to identify citizens with martyrs, ladies from Inner Wheel Club and Rotary Club Elite, Jammu, adopted families of martyrs.

To provide support to non-pensioner widows, financial help was given to 20 widows by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board besides, management of Old Age Home, Jammu, sanctioned monthly pension scheme for these widows to ease out their financial crisis.

Brig (Retd) Harcharan Singh, Board Director, thanked all citizens for helping out widows, martyrs families by providing emotional and financial support. He mentioned that it was also a record of sorts that five ZSWOs are being raised this year due to sustained efforts of Home Department.

Various cultural programmes depicting colours of secularism, harmony and Indian diversity were also presented on the occasion.
