Heroin worth Rs 250 crore seized from Delhi-bound truck

Srinagar: Heroin worth Rs. 250 crore, being smuggled to Delhi inside apple cartons in a truck from north Kashmir’s Kupwara, was seized by the Narcotics Control Bureau on Thursday, news agency TNN has reported.

According to the report, the police said the contraband was being taken to the Azadpur Mandi in north Delhi.

However, the NCB along with the Jammu police intercepted the truck on a highway toll plaza at Nagrota in Jammu.

The news agency quoted NCB official as saying that 50.10 kg of heroin was recovered from the truck.


The driver of the truck was detained and is being questioned, the police said.

“The seizure is worth Rs. 250 crore in the international market. One person belonging to Kupwara district has been detained,” TNN quoted the NCB official as saying, adding more arrests are likely in the operation.


“Over the past three months, the NCB has seized 161 kg heroin valued at Rs 800 crore from Jammu alone,” the report said.
