Restrictions imposed in Pulwama to prevent protests

Srinagar, Oct 13: Restrictions were imposed in Pulwama town and few more areas as a precautionary measure to prevent any demonstration following killing of a Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militant in an encounter during Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) early Saturday morning.

Mobile internet service of all Cellular companies, including Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), has been suspended in Pulwama to prevent spread of any rumours. Train service also remained suspended in south Kashmir for the second day today for security reasons.

Official sources said that restrictions under Section 144 CrPC have been imposed in main town Pulwama and few more areas to prevent any demonstration. However, situation on the ground was entirely different as security forces and state police personnel deployed in the town and other areas were directing people to remain indoors.

Authorities have ordered closure of all educational institutions in Pulwama today as a precautionary measure.

Sabir Ahmad, a HM militant was killed by security forces in an encounter at Babagund in Pulwama this morning.
