Restriction lifted in down town Srinagar

Srinagar, Sep 18: Restrictions imposed in the down town Srinagar as a precautionary measure to prevent any law and order problem, were lifted, official sources said.

There are no restrictions in any part of the city on Tuesday, police said.

All the gates of historic Jamia masjid, stronghold of moderate Hurriyat Conference (HC) Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq, which were closed yesterday, are open for devotees.

Roads leading to the worship place, which were closed with barbed wire by security forces yesterday are also open. Normal business also resumed in the Jamia Market.

Similarly, the Nallahmar road are also open after security forces removed the barbed wire and other road blocks. Shops and business establishments are also now open and traffic was plying normally on all routes. Work in government offices and banks was also normal and educational institutions were functioning.

Additional security forces deployed in the down town and Jamia Market have also been withdrawn.

Restrictions were imposed to prevent any law and order problem following strike called by Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq and Mohammad Yaseen Malik against the killing of five militants of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) and Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) by security forces in an encounter in Kulgam on Saturday.

A civilian was also killed and several others injured in the security force action.
