Kishtwar Accident: Toll rises to 16, 17 injured ,11 airlifted to Jammu hospital

Jammu, Sep 14: The toll in Kishtwar road accident has swelled to 16 as four more passengers succumbed to their injuries while 17 others injured when a minibus ferrying them plunged into River Chenab on Friday morning.

"Sixteen people were killed while 17 others injured as a passenger minibus plunged into Chenab this morning," police here said.

They said that in the rescue operation carried out, 13 dead bodies were recovered while four of the seriously injured succumbed to injuries on way to the hospital.

"Eleven critically injured persons have been airlifted to GMC Hospital in Jammu," they said and added that all the dead bodies have been retrieved and the injured have been evacuated from the accident spot.

Other injured are being treated at District Hospital in Kishtwar, police said.

They further added that the mini bus carrying passengers which was on the way from Keshwan to Kishtwar on Kuriya- Keshwan link road rolled down into Chebab river at Thakrai village.

Meanwhile MI-V5 was also launched from Udhampur for Casualty evacuation to Kisthwar.

"Eight evacuations done and the helicopter landed at Jammu in the afternoon," they said.
