Licenses of 3 FPS dealers suspended in Jammu

Jammu: The licenses of three fair price shop (FPS) dealers were suspended here after a special squad found irregularities in the distribution of foodgrains and non-maintenance of record books during a surprise inspection, an official spokesperson said today.

The inspection was conducted by a special squad constituted by the Director Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Jammu, Amit Sharma, yesterday in view of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha, the spokesperson said.

Random surprise checks in fair price shops were conducted in the city circle-I and the squad found lot of irregularities in the distribution of foodgrains and non-maintenance of record books by the dealers, he said.

Sharma directed his officers to immediately transfer the ration distribution of the suspended dealers to the nearest available dealers so that people do not face inconvenience in lifting monthly ration as per allotted quotas till their cases are settled, he said.

Meanwhile, Divisional Commissioner Sanjeev Verma reviewed the arrangements being put in place across the Jammu division for smooth celebration of Eid on August 22 at a high-level meeting here.

Verma exhorted upon the police and the traffic department to ensure proper security arrangements and traffic management around Eid and important mosques to avoid any inconvenience to the visitors, the spokesperson said.

The divisional commissioner also directed the Power Development Department and the Public Health Engineering to ensure uninterrupted power and water supply on the festival, besides directing concerned departments to keep a strict vigil on the rates of essential commodities.
