SPCB intensifies surprise check against vehicular pollution, noise pollution

JAMMU: J&K State Pollution Control Board with Traffic Police Department has intensified drive against vehicular pollution and violators where vehicles are checked for pollution under control certificates.
In a day long drive, 48 vehicles from Satwari to Gandhi Nagar road have been checked out of which 19 vehicles were challaned for violation of pollution norms. Pollution Checking Centres were also checked to ascertain the efficiency of their equipments for issuing certificate to the vehicles. PCB has also monitored noise level on the road and imposed on spot penalty to the defaulters.
PCB along with Transport Department inspected 40 pollution checking centres and observed that most of these centres need to up-grade their equipments of checking. The list of defaulters along with other recommendations have been forwarded to Transport Department for legal course of action.
While talking to the reporters Sh. J.N. Sharma, Regional Director, J&K Pollution Control Board said that vehicular pollution is a primary cause of air pollution in urban areas emitting 60-70% of total air pollutants such as CO, HC, NOX, SOX which is carcinogenic and have adverse impact on the health and well being of population.
He explained that Pollution Control Board is making efforts to bring the air pollution level under control and action plan in this regard has been prepared and other departments such as Motor Vehicle Department, Town Planning, JMC, R&B, agencies supplying Fuel and District Administration. This will surely ease out the problem of air pollution caused due to vehicular pollution.
Er. J.N. Sharma along with the team comprising of Sh. Kuldeep Bhan I/C Vehicular Monitoring, Sh. Nasir-ud-Din Sheikh, besides Divisional Officer PCB Jammu North Er. T.S.Chib, Er. Sh. Anupam Kaul, Er. Sanjay Rathore, Sh. Deepak Mattoo were present during the surprise check along with sleuths of Traffic police.
