Diwali celebration turns into nightmare

JAMMU: The Diwali celebrations turned tragic for some as three unfortunate incidents were reported from across Jammu city in last 24 hours, which include death of a senior scribe Arun Gupta due to electric shock, who was working with a local English daily .
According to a Police spokesperson, Arun Gupta, senior journalist and Public Relation Officer (PRO) in Jammu Central Cooperative Bank, received severe electric shock when he was decorating his house at Rajpura area of Jammu city. The unconscious scribe was immediately rushed to GMC Hospital Jammu, where he was declared as brought dead, he said, adding, after legal formalities, the body was handed over to family members for last rites. Meanwhile, one Pratima, 8, daughter of Ramesh of Madhya Pradesh, at present Digiana in Jammu, was admitted in GMC&H Jammu after she received burn injuries, the spokesperson further said, adding, she was bursting crackers when she received severe burns. The doctors said that she had received 20% burn injuries and her treatment is in progress, he said.
Yet in another incident at Ambphalla area of city, a chemist shop reportedly gutted due to short circuit, the spokesman said and added, however, there was no injury reported but the property worth lakhs of rupees is stated to be damaged in fire.
