Jammu woman harassment case: DIG headed 5-member SIT to investigate

Jammu, May 24: A five-member Special Investigation Team, headed by Deputy Inspector General level rank police officer, will probe into harassment charge by a woman against the Station House Officer inside the lock-up where she was reportedly kept by the police in a theft case.

Seema Devi, resident of Deharan alleged that she along with her husband was brutally beaten by the SHO Police Station Kanhachack Rajesh Sharma in the lock-up.

Meanwhile, on the directions of the court, the Zonal Police Headquarters has constituted Special Investigation Team to be headed by the DIG Basant Rath to investigate the case. The team is comprised of Basant Rath, Deputy Inspector General of Police, CD/HG & SDRF, Jammu (Chairman), Sandeep Choudhary, SP City South Jammu, SP Mohan Lal Kaith.

SP APCR, Jammu, Sugandha Mahajan, Dy SP Hqrs, Jammu and Suresh Kumar, Chief Prosecuting Officer, High Court, Jammu as its members. The order also said that the SIT shall immediately conduct scrupulous investigation into the case to bring out the truth and shall furnish the progress of investigation to the Zonal Headquarters on weekly basis for proper monitoring.
