Navratras, PM visit big security challenge for JKP

Jammu, March 27: In the wake of cop’s weapon snatching incident in the heart of the city, Jammu and Kashmir Police agreed that Navratras and upcoming Prime Minister’s visit is security challenge for the security agencies.

Talking to the media persons on the sideline of an event here today, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu zone, SD Singh said that elaborate security arrangements has been done for Navratras starting from Tuesday and PM Narendra Modi’s visit to Jammu region on April 2.

“There is already enough deployment in Katra and para-military forces, which are part of our security set up are securing the cave shrine at Trikuta Hills and also manning the 13 kms track and Katra town,” said the IGP and added that as far as PM’s visit is concern it is a high level VVIP visit and special security arrangements are being placed for the entire event at various places. “Three tier security arrangements have been done for PM visit,” Singh further added.

However, when asked about the effect of the official riffle snatching incident occurred at Tawi Bridge on Saturday late evenings, IGP SD Singh said that police have already arrested two accused and one is still at large, whereas this is also a serious security concern, but fool-proof security arrangements have been done in the entire region to avoid any untoward incident.

A team of Special Protection Group (SPG) personnel already reached Chenani and Udhampur to have a security review and take over the inner security set up from the state police.

“Though there are no specific inputs regarding any particular terror threat on these important occasions, such events are always challenge for Jammu Police,” said the IGP Jammu.

As situation is already sensitive at International Border (IB) and Line of Control (LoC) due to the continuous ceasefire violations by Pakistan at LoC and inputs from intelligence agencies that terrorists are present at launching pads opposite to IB in Jammu region and may attempt to sneak inside Indian Territory.

Jammu Police have also active its security grid at border areas and set up extra checking points at all roads leading to the winter capital city.
