25 Veterinary Centres functional in Surankot: Kohli

Minister for Animal, Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries, Abdul Ghani Kohli today informed the house that the Department runs 25 veterinary centers in Surankot area of Poonch for providing health cover and breeding coverage to livestock and poultry.
Replying to a question by Choudhary Mohammad Akram, the Minister said that the breeding programme of the department is mainly focused on the upgradation of bovine population through Frozen Semen technology by fixing annual targets of Artificial Insemination. "Besides natural service is used in far flung areas through Pedigree bulls," he added.
Responding to another query, he said the breeding of high quality pet animals does not figure in the primary objectives of the department.
However, he said the pet animals are also provided healthcare in the centers run by the department," he said.
Mr Kohli also said that Surankote will be considered if new opening of veterinary hospitals are initiated in the state.
