Ghulam Nabi Azad not to contest Anantnag-Rajouri seat, says DPAP

Adv Saleem Parray to carry the baton instead

SRINAGAR: Chairman Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) Ghulam Nabi Azad will not contest election from Anantnag-Rajouri seat, the party announced on Wednesday.
The party has decided to field Advocate Mohammad Saleem Parray for the Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha seat instead.
As per the sources, the party had recently held a meeting. During the meeting, Azad decided not to contest without giving any reason and nominated Parray as a candidate.
A senior leader in DPAP told The News Now that Azad did not give any reason why he is not contesting elections and nothing much was asked by the party leaders. Though, he has been campaigning in Chenab valley from last several days.
Adding he said, “Later it was decided to field Parray from Anantnag-Rajouri and we are hopeful that he is going to win with a huge margin”.
Advocate Mohammad Saleem Parray, a District Development Commission member from Anantnang joined the DPAP last year in March 2023.
On April 2nd, The Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) on Tuesday announced its President Ghulam Nabi Azad, as a candidate for Lok Sabha polls on the Anantnag-Rajouri seat. DPAP leader Taj Mohiuddin informed this during a press conference here in Srinagar.
Mohiuddin said that there had been several meetings that the party held and today the core committee of DPAP met and it was unanimously decided Ghulam Nabi Azad will contest the Anantnag-Rajouri seat.It is important to mention here that Jammu and Kashmir National Conference has nominated Mian Altaf Qayoom as their candidate from Anantnag-Rajouri seat. Peoples Democratic Party nominated its party President Mehbooba Mufti as a candidate from Anantnag-Rajouri seat.
