The town’s buzzing with festivities. From local vendors selling firecrackers to sweet shops preparing fresh mithais, everyone is in full swing to welcome Diwali. The scenario is no different at home; where families are cleaning up their houses and decorating them with pretty diyas on their windowsills and elaborate rangolis on their doorsteps—which could be rather challenging to get right, but they try. In order to keep the festive spirit alive up until the end, here are a few hacks to save you time and energy when getting those rangoli designs right—that could also turn out to be quite handy for the lazy ones out there!

Hack 1: Outline the rangoli design

Use a chalk to outline the rangoli design. This way it becomes much easier and faster to fill in and you have enough room for trial and error.

Hack 2: Use cones to fill in colour

Use paper cone moulds or mehendi cones to accurately fill in colours without having to worry about them spreading outside the lines.

Hack 3: Use a stencil

The closest you could come to creating an original design—use a stencil to fill in colours and keep repeating till you’ve created a unique pattern of your own.

Hack 4: Replace colours with flowers

The easiest, prettiest and the laziest option available out there. Think of all the mess avoided when replacing sand colours with flower petals or even grains for that matter.

Hack 5: Float your rangolis

Strategically place a bunch of flower petals and a few floating candles in a big bowl of water and voila, your rangoli is ready. Lazy butt no more, but a creative genius!
