Cop killed, 2 civilians injured in 3 separate incidents in Kashmir

Jammu: A cop killed and 2 civilians injured in three incidents of violence took place across Kashmir in last 24 hours.
As per the reports, a cop was killed by his colleague while a civilian was shot at by a soldier for allegedly snatching the latter's weapon and another civilian injuried after being shot by suspected militants in the districtShopain.
“A policeman died in Kupwara district on Wednesday after being shot at by his colleague in a case of mistaken identity,” officials said.
Ajay Dhar, a follower in the police department who was posted at Handwara, was shot at by a sentry guarding a temple around 2 am after he failed to stop when asked, they said.
According to preliminary investigation, Dhar was going from the Handwara Police Station to sleep at the temple which is located in main Handwara town.
"The victim was using headphones on his mobile phone. When he reached near the temple, the guard there observed suspicious movement and signalled him to stop. Dhar apparently could not hear the sentry, prompting him to open fire," the officials said.
They said Dhar was rushed to a hospital here but succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
This is the second incident of fratricide in Kupwara district in three days. An Army soldier died in a firing incident on Monday following an argument with his colleague during a break from patrolling.
In anther incident, an auto-rickshaw driver was shot at by a soldier on Wednesday for allegedly snatching the latter's weapon in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.
Mohsin Ahmad (24) sustained bullet injuries in his leg after he was shot at by the soldier of a patrolling party at Azadgunj in Baramulla district, they said.
A defence spokesman said the incident took place when Ahmad tried to snatch the soldier's weapon.
"The individual was shot in the legs to thwart the weapon snatching attempt," he said.
The spokesman said Ahmad had assaulted a soldier on duty in similar circumstances around two months ago.
The individual was counselled by the Army on that occasion and was let off on the assurance of his family members," he said.
A case of stone pelting was also registered against him in 2012 and 2014.
"Ahmad had gone missing on August 21, 2019 and was apprehended on October 5 that year at Kralahar Naka, Kanispura in a military operation. Subsequently, he was released from custody on June 22, 2020," he said.
The spokesman added that police have registered a case in the latest incident and investigation is in progress.
Meanwhile, unknown gunmen fired upon a civilian in Chitragam Kalan area of South Kashmir's Shopian district on Wednesday evening.
A senior police officer said that suspected militants fired upon a person in Chitragam. He has been shifted to nearby hospital for treatment.
As per initial reports the injured man has been identified as Zameer Ahmad son of Abdul Hameed Lone and is said to be by profession a shopkeeper.
Meanwhile whole area has been cordoned off to nab the attackers.
