DC Kathua reviews implementation of FPO scheme at DLMC meeting

KATHUA, FEBRUARY 25:- District Development Commissioner Kathua, Om Prakash today chaired a meeting of District Level Monitoring Committee (DLMC) for the formation and promotion of the Farmer Producer Organizations (FPO) scheme in the district.
Farmer Producer Organizations (FPO) Scheme is Centrally sponsored scheme initiated to boost the farm sector. Under the scheme over 10,000 FPOs are targeted to be established in five years time I,e 2019-20 to 2023-24 in the country.
The DDC stressed upon the concerned departments to educate stakeholders about the intend of making Farmers Producer Organizations (FPOs), which will enable them to collectively meet their challenges such as access to agricultural inputs and marketing of produce. He said scheme is aimed at to ensure that the capital cost of farmers is reduced, productivity is increased and farmers get fair prices for their produce.
Earlier, DDM NABARD, Amit Kumar, informed the meeting that National Cooperative Development Council has identified Kathua and Basohli as Cluster for the crop of Mushroom and Maize which was approved by the DLMC after deliberation.
The meeting was also attended by the Chief Planning Officer, Uttam Singh; Chief Agriculture Officer, Vijay Upadhya; Lead District manager, Narain Singh; Chief Horticulture Officer, Sushil Kr Angurana; Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Dr. Satvir Singh Rana; and KVK Kathua Head, Dr. Vishal Mahajan.
