40-year-old woman drowns in a waterbody in Kulgam

Anantnag, Jul 9 : A 40-year-old woman drowned in a nallah in south Kashmir district of Kulgam, official sources said here on Thursday.
They said the woman, identified as Shamima Banoo, was crossing a bridge when she slipped and fell into Nallah Veshaw in Damhal Hanjipora in Kulgam last evening. “Other people present at the spot jumped in the waterbody to rescue the woman,” they said.
However, they said the woman drowned, adding her body was later fished out. “After completing all the legal and medical formalities, body of the deceased was handed over to her relatives for last rites,” they said.
They said police has registered a case and initiated investigation into the incident.
