4 women die due to COVID-19, death toll mounts to 153

Srinagar, Jul 9 : Four women from Srinagar, Baramulla, Pulwama and Kulgam -- died due to COVID-19 in the valley on Thursday, taking the death toll due to the virus in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir to 153.
Doctors Association of Kashmir (DAK) has linked ignoring recommended precautions by people with surge in new cases and deaths due to the novel Coronavirus.
With these deaths, 117 people have lost their lives due to infection in 35 days, and 137 people in 49 day in J&K, where the COVID-19 positive cases have surpassed 9000-mark.
As many as 16 patients -- including six persons from Baramulla, three from Srinagar, a two from Budgam and 65-year-old man from Kulgam, one patient each from Anantnag and Bandipora, and a BSF jawan -- died due to COVID-19 on the first three days of this week.
Official sources said a 65-year-old woman was referred to S K Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Bemina, for breathlessness from Kulgam on Wednesday evening. “The patient, who tested positive for COVID-19, was suffering from pneumonia,” they said, adding the elderly woman died at the hospital on Thursday afternoon.
They said another woman, a 70-year-old patient from Pulwama, was admitted to SHMS hospital on Monday bilateral pneumonia and other problems. “The patient, who tested positive for COVID-19 died at the hospital on Thursday,” they said.
They said that a 60-year-old woman, a resident of Pattan in Baramulla, was admitted to Chest Disease hospital on June 29 after she tested positive for COVID-19. “The patient, who was suffering from bilateral pneumonia, hypertension and hypothyroidism, died on Thursday morning,” they said.
They said an 80-year-old woman, a resident of Natipora in Srinagar, was admitted to SHMS hospital on July 1 for bilateral pneumonia with hypertension and Type 2 diabetes. “The woman, who tested positive for COVID-19, died at the hospital in the wee hours on Thursday,” they added.
Ten districts of Jammu have reported 14 fatalities while 139 people have lost their lived due to COVID-19 in ten districts of Kashmir.
With these fatalities, the death toll due to COVID-19 has risen to 31 in Baramulla, which stand at number two. Srinagar is the worst affected district in J&K in terms of causalities with 37 deaths. Ganderbal district recorded the first death due to COVID-19 on Saturday.
The number of death has swelled to 18 in Kulgam while 12 people have lost their lives to the disease in Anantnag. Shopian with 14 deaths is at number four. Eleven people have lost their lives in Budgam, seven in Kupwara, five in Pulwama and three in Bandipora.
As many as 41 people -- including nine from Srinagar, 10 from Baramulla, five each from Anantnag, three from Kulgam, Budgam and Shopian, two each from Kupwara and Bandipora, one each from Jammu and Ganderbal -- died due to COVID-19 last week.
“People have started thronging public parks, gardens and picnic spots. Playing fields are full, roads are chock-a- block with traffic and markets are crowded,” DAK President and influenza expert Dr Nisar ul Hassan told UNI.
