Police arrests drug peddler; recovers psychotropic substances in Srinagar

Srinagar, Jul 8 : Police on Wednesday arrested a drug peddler and recovered psychotropic substances in this summer capital.
A police spokesperson said that officers at a checkpoint established at Pahroo Chowk, intercepted an individual, identified as Mohammad Altaf Sheikh, a resident of Kenihama Nowgam in Srinagar.
During checking, he said officers were able to recover psychotropic substances, including 5465 tablets, 20 Codeine bottles, besides 300 grams Charas concealed in a bag.
The spokesperson said the accused has been arrested and shifted to Police Station Nowgam where he remains in custody. “A case FIR No 107/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Nowgam and investigation in the matter has been initiated,” he said.
He said community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood, adding persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.
“Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace as reiterated in our community meetings,” he added.
