DDC Kulgam reviews implementation of DEP

KULGAM, JANUARY 22: District Development Commissioner, Kulgam Showkat Aijaz Bhat, today convened a meeting of officers to review the implementation District Environment Plan in the district.
The meeting was attended by ADDC, ADC, JD-Planning, General Manager Industries and other officers.
The meeting was informed that the total solid waste generation in all four Municipal Committee’s in the District is 25.98 MT per day and a scientific solid waste treatment plant is coming up in the district at Liroo.
The EO’s were directed to strictly adhere to the guidelines and distribute color coated dustbins among all households to collect and segregate the waste at source.
The concerned officers from health department informed the meeting that all Bio Medical waste generated in health institutions is being managed by private agency on contract basis and primary segregation and collection is carried out at hospitals.
The meeting was informed that according to latest survey conducted by Forest Survey of India (FSI), forest cover of district has increased by 32 .34 sq Km’s.
The DDC urged the concerned that to ensure the stone crushers and other industrial unit are adopting pollution control measures and directed for and strict action against violators.
Highlighting the importance of District Environmental Committee, the DDC asked the officers to work with coordination for effective implementation of District Environment Plan.
He also asked the concerned to conduct awareness programmes in schools, colleges and other institutions to sensitize students about the importance of solid waste management which is of pivotal to preservation and conservation of environment.
