Srinagar, May 30: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday said that writers and intellectuals play a crucial role in shaping societies and civilizations, often leaving a deeper impact than institutions.
Speaking at the inauguration of the two-day Kashmir Literature Festival at SKICC Srinagar, Sinha stressed the need to promote India’s rich civilizational heritage and present its authentic history to future generations. He said literature has the power to influence society in ways that large institutions often cannot, noting that a single literary work can create lasting change.
The Lieutenant Governor urged scholars and researchers to work towards correcting historical distortions and overcoming colonial-era narratives. He said India has made significant contributions to fields such as science, mathematics, medicine and astronomy, and these achievements should be highlighted globally.
Sinha also emphasized the importance of preserving and documenting the country’s historical legacy while promoting its contemporary achievements. Expressing confidence in India’s future, he said the nation is moving steadily towards becoming a developed country by 2047.
Rejecting concerns about a decline in reading habits, he said people are reading more than ever before through both traditional and digital platforms. He called upon writers, thinkers and researchers to use these platforms to build positive narratives and strengthen society.
The two-day festival features literary discussions, poetry sessions and interactions involving writers, historians, researchers and academicians from across the country.
