New Delhi, May 15: The Union Education Ministry on Friday announced that the NEET-UG re-examination will be held on June 21, while confirming that the medical entrance test will shift to Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode from next year to improve transparency and prevent irregularities.
Addressing a press conference, officials said the government remains committed to protecting students’ interests and ensuring that malpractice does not affect the examination process again.
Authorities admitted that examination questions had circulated in the form of “guess papers”, following which a verification process was carried out over several days before the decision to cancel the examination was taken in the interest of students.
The government said the move was necessary to ensure that deserving candidates are not affected by organised malpractice linked to education mafias.
Officials further stated that a zero-tolerance policy towards exam irregularities is being followed and several reforms are being introduced to strengthen the examination system.
Among the major decisions announced were the refund of examination fees for candidates and waiver of fees for the upcoming re-exam.
Students will also be allowed to select their preferred examination city again, considering that many candidates may have travelled away from their previous exam centres.
The duration of the examination has also been increased by 15 minutes to help students complete attendance and other formalities without pressure. The exam timing will now continue till 5:15 pm instead of 5 pm.
Authorities said admit cards for the re-examination will be issued by June 14, while coordination with state governments will be ensured to minimise travel-related difficulties for students.
