Srinagar, May 21: Fresh snowfall was recorded in several higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, while rains lashed the plains, bringing a noticeable dip in temperatures across the Valley.
Officials said areas including Gurez in Bandipora district, Zojila Pass on the Srinagar-Leh highway and the tourist resort of Sonamarg received fresh snowfall during the early morning hours. Snow was also reported from a few other high-altitude areas.
Meanwhile, intermittent rainfall affected many parts of the Valley, including Srinagar, providing relief from the recent heatwave-like conditions.
In Bandipora district, heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms during the night damaged a road and caused water and mud to enter several houses. Waterlogging and mudflow also disrupted movement in the affected areas.
The Meteorological Department has predicted more light rain and thundershowers over the next two days, with chances of gusty winds and hailstorms at isolated places. Officials said weather conditions are expected to remain mostly dry during mornings, although brief showers may occur in some areas during late afternoons till May 25.
