Srinagar, Apr 15: In a story of grit, determination, and excellence, a visually impaired student from Srinagar has secured an outstanding 95 per cent in the Class 10 board examinations conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education, the results of which were declared on Wednesday.

Zainab Bilal scored an impressive 475 out of 500 marks, including a perfect 100 in Computer Science. In a rare and remarkable achievement, she appeared for the examination using a laptop without the assistance of a scribe, making her one of the first visually impaired candidates to adopt this mode in the CBSE board exams.

The 16-year-old student studied at the Learning Resource Centre of Delhi Public School Srinagar, where she received consistent academic and technical support. Expressing gratitude, Zainab credited her school, teachers, and family for standing by her throughout her journey.

“Since my childhood, I have wanted to get into the information technology sector. I intend to pursue my bachelor’s degree in computer applications,” she said, outlining her future aspirations.

She extended special thanks to the school’s management and her teachers for enabling her to achieve her goals. She also acknowledged the unwavering support of her parents, describing them as her biggest strength.

Beyond academics, Zainab has also distinguished herself in extracurricular activities. At the age of 12, she conducted interviews with prominent personalities, including former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan. These interviews were broadcast on Radio DPS, a student-run radio station of the school.

Sharing a message for parents of specially-abled children, Zainab urged them not to lose hope and to continue supporting their children. “If I can do it, anyone can. They just need your support,” she said.

Meanwhile, the Central Board of Secondary Education also announced the overall results for the Class 10 board examinations, recording a pass percentage of 93.70 per cent this year. The board introduced a two-edition examination system from this academic session, making it mandatory for students to appear in the first edition, the results of which have now been declared.

Girls once again outperformed boys, continuing the trend of recent years. According to officials, 94.99 per cent of girls cleared the examination, which is 1.3 percentage points higher than the pass percentage of boys.

A total of 55,368 students scored above 95 per cent marks, while 2,21,574 candidates secured above 90 per cent. Over 1.47 lakh students have been placed in the ‘compartment’ category, a slight decrease compared to last year.

This year, more than 24.71 lakh students appeared for the examination, which was conducted across 8,074 centres nationwide, reflecting the scale and competitiveness of one of India’s largest school-level examinations.
