New Delhi: The United States, Israel and the European Union on Wednesday expressed strong solidarity with India on the first anniversary of the Pahalgam terror attack, remembering the victims and reiterating their commitment to fight terrorism in all its forms.
Marking one year of the deadly attack that claimed 26 lives, mostly tourists, US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor said the United States stands firmly with the people of India in their fight against terrorism. In a message, he said the victims are being remembered with honour while extending condolences to their families, adding that the US continues to support India against the threat of terrorism.
Israel echoed similar sentiments, with Foreign Minister Gideon Saar paying tribute to the victims and expressing solidarity with their families. He asserted that Israel remains “resolute and unwavering” in combating terrorism and will continue to strengthen cooperation with India to confront the threat and advance peace, security and stability.
Israel’s Ambassador to India Reuven Azar also paid tribute to the victims through a video message, stating that the pain caused by such attacks is deeply familiar and emphasising that “terror has no borders.”
The European Union, in a statement issued on behalf of its 27 member states, described the Pahalgam attack as “heinous” and said it stands in solidarity with the people of India in remembrance of the innocent victims. The bloc reiterated its outright condemnation of terrorism, stating that such acts can never be justified.
Other global leaders also joined in remembrance. Australia’s High Commissioner to India Philip Green said Australia stands against terrorism in all its forms while honouring the victims and their grieving families. The United Kingdom also paid tribute through its mission in New Delhi, reaffirming its commitment to working with partners to ensure peace and security.
The attack, carried out on April 22 last year in Pahalgam in south Kashmir, was claimed by Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba, which killed 26 people and shocked the nation, drawing widespread global condemnation.
Following the attack, India launched a retaliatory military offensive, Operation Sindoor, targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
