Anantnag, June 17: Two people lost their lives and several others sustained injuries after a vehicle met with an accident in the Aru area of Pahalgam in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Wednesday.
According to officials, the vehicle, bearing registration number JK03C-6737, reportedly went out of the driver’s control and plunged into a deep gorge near the Lidder River.
The impact of the crash proved fatal for two occupants, who died on the spot, while a number of others were injured and required immediate medical attention.
Following the incident, teams from the local police, Traffic Police and emergency services rushed to the scene and launched rescue and evacuation operations.
Officials said the rescue process was continuing and that the exact number of injured persons and other details were being verified.
Meanwhile, authorities have initiated an investigation to ascertain the circumstances that led to the accident. Further details are awaited.
