Contractor’s son held after CCTV shows deliberate attack on 65-year-old in Gandhi Nagar

Jammu: In a shocking case of road rage, Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested a contractor’s son who allegedly attempted to murder a senior citizen by ramming his Mahindra Thar into a scooty rider — not once, but twice — in Gandhi Nagar area of Jammu.
The accused, Manan Anand (35), son of a contractor Rajinder Anand, resident of House No. 62, Sector 4, Nanak Nagar, was reportedly absconding after the incident.
He was finally tracked down and arrested by the Gandhi Nagar Police, who also seized the Thar SUV used in the crime.
According to police, the incident took place near Allora Textiles, Green Belt Park, on July 27, when Manan, driving a Mahindra Thar (JK02DP-9594) recklessly from Gandhi Nagar towards Green Belt, collided head-on with a scooty (JK02BS-6435) coming from the opposite direction.
The scooty rider, Kamal Dutta (65), son of Yog Raj Bakshi, resident of 607 A Gandhi Nagar, was grievously injured in the crash.
After the initial collision, Manan reportedly reversed his SUV and deliberately crushed the victim again, a shocking act caught on CCTV and corroborated by an eyewitness.
The seriously injured Kamal Dutta was shifted to GMC Jammu by passers-by. He remains unconscious and is currently undergoing treatment.
Initially, an FIR No. 163/2025 was registered under Sections 281 and 125(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Police Station Gandhi Nagar.
However, based on the doctor’s report and damning CCTV footage, Section 109 BNS (attempt to murder) was added to the charges.
“The swift action by the SHO Gandhi Nagar and his team led to the arrest of the accused and seizure of the Thar. The investigation is ongoing under the close supervision of SDPO South and SP South, with all legal and forensic procedures being followed meticulously,” said a senior police officer.
The vehicle is being sent for a mechanical examination, and the owner (father of the accused) is also under police scrutiny.
The case has sent shockwaves across the city, highlighting the dangers of reckless driving and unchecked aggression on roads.
