85% work done on Tawi Barrage , final phase set for June 2025

JAMMU: The Tawi River Front Project (Phase I) is set to be completed by April 2025, within the allocated budget of Rs 143.00 crore.
This update was provided by the Minister for Jal Shakti, Javed Ahmad Rana while responding to a query raised by BJP MLA Arvind Gupta regarding the current status of the under-construction Tawi River Front, Tawi Barrage/Artificial Lake, along with details on the date of tendering, allotment, estimated cost, and expenditure incurred to date.
Rana informed that the tendering process for both the left and right banks of the Tawi River Front took place on November 5, 2021, and November 7, 2021, respectively. Subsequently, the tenders for both banks were allotted on January 19, 2022.
The completion timeline for the left bank was scheduled for March 2025, while the right bank is expected to be completed by April 2025. The estimated costs for the left and right banks were Rs 74.88 crore and Rs 81.50 crore, respectively, with the final allotted costs being Rs 68.47 crore and Rs 74.53 crore.
Providing further updates on the project’s progress, the minister stated that physical progress on the left bank has reached 96%, while the right bank has achieved 94% completion. As of now, the expenditure incurred stands at Rs 55.36 crore for the left bank and Rs 66.75 crore for the right bank.
Regarding the Tawi Barrage/Artificial Lake, Javed Rana highlighted that 85% of the work has been completed so far. The tendering for this project was executed on May 11, 2022, and the allotment was finalized on September 7, 2022.
The total estimated cost of the project stands at Rs 64.80 crore, while the expenditure incurred till date is Rs 36.15 crore. The expected completion timeframe for pondage is April 2025, whereas the remaining works are slated to be finished by June 2025.
Addressing concerns about the discharge of drainage water into the Ranbir Canal and measures to prevent contamination, the minister announced that a Detailed Project Report (DPR) worth Rs 34.06 crore has been prepared to implement ten major works.
Among these, the construction of a diversion to redirect the outfall of a Nallah/Drain into the Ranbir Canal at RD 17500m near Barnai has been planned at a cost of Rs 148.00 lakh. Additionally, Rs 188.88 lakh has been allocated for the construction of a diversion to prevent drainage discharge into the Ranbir Canal at RD 18720m and 18300m near Patoli Brahmana.
Another critical work includes constructing a deep drain and contributory drains to prevent direct drainage into the Ranbir Canal near Bamai CRPF Camp through a drainage siphon at Muthi, costing Rs 49.32 lakh. Further, Rs 48.41 lakh has been earmarked for constructing a deep drain/Nallah to prevent drainage water flow from CRPF Camp to the drainage siphon at Muthi.
Similarly, the minister informed that six additional similar projects have been undertaken at various locations to prevent direct drainage into the Ranbir Canal. The total cost of these six projects stands at Rs 2971.03 lakh, ensuring a comprehensive approach to safeguarding the canal from contamination.
