Srinagar, May 16:National Conference Chief Spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq on Saturday reacted to the BJP’s recent protest demanding a ban on alcohol in Jammu and Kashmir, saying the party failed to address the issue during the period of Governor’s rule in the Union Territory.
Speaking to reporters, Sadiq said the demand for prohibition may be valid, but questioned why the BJP did not take any concrete steps when Jammu and Kashmir was under Governor’s rule.
He said the BJP was now trying to create pressure and fear through protests despite remaining silent on the matter earlier. He added that the National Conference government would act on the matter soon and take an appropriate decision regarding the demand for prohibition.
Replying to allegations of corruption raised by PDP leaders, Sadiq said political parties should first examine themselves before accusing others.
He further said that if anyone has any complaint against any minister or MLA, the matter should be brought before the party leadership so that appropriate action can be initiated.
Sadiq asserted that no minister or MLA of the present government is involved in corruption or any illegal activity
