We doubt Centre’s intentions in reinstating the Statehood as they’re evading the matter on a daily basis and the oppression orchestrated by them is beyond tolerance now: Karra
AUG 9: Amid the uproar for reinstatement of Statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, Congress kick-started the 11-day hunger strike in Srinagar, with president Tariq Hameed Karra hurling brickbats at the Centre for showing prolonged apathy.
As part of the campaign “Humari Riyasat Humara Haq”, Tariq Karra gave an overview of the protest programmes which were undertaken by Congress for restoration of full Statehood to J&K.
In his keynote address, Karra said, “The Government downgraded Jammu and Kashmir into two UTs following that its commitments in and outside Parliament regarding Statehood failed miserably.”
He added, “The protest programmes Srinagar Chalo, Jammu Chalo and Delhi Chalo were highly espoused by people across the regions.”
“Then, LoP Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Indian National Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge endorsed the idea of Statehood,” said Karra, adding, the second set of programmes were outreach events from Aug 1-4 with different fraternities wherein everyone advocated the idea of restoration of full Statehood.
On Aug 5, this campaign of statehood was rolled out in every district of Jammu and Kashmir as “Black Day” and several of Congress leaders were house arrested.
“Hence, we doubt Central Government’s intentions in reinstating the Statehood as they’re evading the matter on a daily basis and the oppression orchestrated by them is beyond tolerance now.”
Today, Congress is coinciding this 11-day hunger strike with “Quit India Movement” which was started on August 9, 1942.
Senior Congress leaders GA Mir, Nizam Ud Din Bhat, Iftkar Ahmed, Peerzada Mohammad Syed and others were present on the occsaion.
