SRINAGAR, AUGUST 11: Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone, V.K. Birdi-IPS, on Tuesday said that comprehensive, multi-layered security arrangements have been put in place across South Kashmir ahead of the Independence Day celebrations.
The IGP said security measures have been strengthened not only at the venues where the celebrations will be held but also in the surrounding areas across all districts of South Kashmir.
Speaking to reporters, Birdi said the arrangements have been made to ensure that the upcoming Independence Day functions are conducted peacefully and smoothly.
“There is a multi-layered security arrangement in all the districts of South Kashmir. Not only in the venues, but also in the surrounding areas,” he said.
Appealing to people to participate in the celebrations in large numbers, the IGP described Independence Day as a public function and urged people to make the occasion successful.
When asked about the recent attacks in South Kashmir, the IGP said the matter is currently under investigation and declined to comment further.
“That is a matter of investigation. This is not the time to talk about it,” he said.
