Srinagar: Famed Bollywood singer Sonu Nigam captivated audiences in Srinagar on Sunday evening with a soulful live performance on the scenic banks of Dal Lake, marking a memorable night for music lovers and local artistes alike.
The concert, organised by NDTV Good Times in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department, was held at the SK International Convention Centre (SKICC) — a venue that has previously hosted several high-profile cultural events. Nigam’s performance included a mix of his timeless Bollywood hits and heartfelt tributes to the natural beauty of Kashmir.
Dressed in traditional Kashmiri attire for a part of the show, Nigam lauded the warmth of the people and described the Valley as “heaven not just for nature, but for music too.” His stage presence and humility struck a chord with the audience, which included a blend of locals, tourists, and young musicians from the region.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, in his remarks ahead of the event, said the concert symbolised Jammu and Kashmir’s growing prominence as a cultural and tourism destination. “I would like to thank NDTV that artistes like Sonu Nigam are performing in Srinagar. Local artistes have been given a valuable opportunity to showcase their talent. This event will promote tourism and inspire our young musicians,” he said.
Highlighting the growing confidence of travellers, Sinha noted that over two crore tourists have been visiting Jammu and Kashmir annually for the past few years. “The world is seeing that Kashmir is a safe and vibrant destination,” he said.
While the LG could not attend the concert due to Chhath Puja observances, he commended the initiative and confirmed his participation in upcoming event, Harmony by the Ganga, featuring A.R. Rahman in Varanasi on November 14.
The event is being seen as another step in the administration’s ongoing efforts to project Jammu and Kashmir as a hub for art, culture, and global tourism.
