OCT 1: Former J&K Chief Minister and PDP President Mehbooba Mufti appealed Police and Army to dedicate the ground for public use and hand it over to the community.
PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti, said, “Choking spaces for our youth leads to drugs and depression.”
It is learnt on the request of local youth, Mehbooba Mufti visited Tabel Ground Chattabal, Srinagar and appealed to Army’s segment Chinar Corps to dedicate the ground for public use and hand it over to the community.
Hurling barbs at the Government, PDP Stalwart said, “If the Government can’t provide spaces to our youth, what future are we building? Snatching playgrounds will choke a generation.”
Mehbooba Mufti also paid a visit to the MET Ground at Barzulla Baghat – a 70-year-old playground now being used for police construction – appealed to DGP Jammu and Kashmir Nalin Prabhat to return the ground to the youth.
Mehbooba Mufti said, “There is growing concern among the locals, especially the youth, that these vital open spaces regularly used for sports and recreational activities might be taken over by Army or Police forces.”
“This would deprive them of one of the few accessible public spaces available for healthy engagement and community interaction.”
She urged both Army and Police authorities to avoid doing this and provide the land to youth for different activities.
PDP supreme, “We must ensure that Generation Z is not pushed to the margins doing so could have serious long-term repercussions.”
Mehbooba Mufti said, “Preserving these spaces for civilian use is not just about land, it’s about safeguarding hope, opportunity, and a sense of belonging for our youth.”
